About Douay Rheims Bible (DRB/DRV)
The Douay-Rheims Bible is a Catholic English translation of the Bible, first published in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. It was translated from the Latin Vulgate by English Catholic scholars in exile in France. The New Testament was completed in 1582 in Rheims, while the Old Testament followed in 1609–1610 in Douay. It remained the standard Catholic English Bible for centuries and significantly influenced the King James Version. It is known for its formal, traditional language.
