I’m not paying $10 a month for an app I can’t try out before buying

Free Version on IPhone not working
I downloaded the free version of the app to my iPhone and it takes you to the screen to pay 9.99 a month or 49.99 a year. It does not allow for you to access the free version to try it out. Very disappointing.
