The project "Immersive Reality and Technological Innovation of Astroturism" is an initiative executed by Brecha Digital Consultores in conjunction with the Regional Government of Coquimbo and the Central University of Chile, thanks to the Innovation Fund for Regional Competitiveness, FIC-R year 2016.
This application invites the user through immersive reality, to know and visit the Cruz del Sur Observatory located in Cerro El Peralito, 3.5 kilometers from the main square of Combarbalá. It is considered the largest tourist observatory in South America due to its innovative architectural design that aims to bring the sky to earth, through the distribution of its domes. Its 4 observation domes are arranged in the same way as the stars that make up the well-known constellation "Cruz del Sur".
The skies of northern Chile are considered the best in the world for astronomy because of their exceptional conditions for observing the skies of the southern hemisphere. The Cruz del Sur Observatory, dependent on the Municipality of Combarbalá, opened its doors in 2009, with the aim of spreading the passion for astronomy and promoting the value of the sky as a natural heritage in the community.
In this virtual tour through Cruz del Sur you will be able to see the showroom that displays astronomical graphics; the outdoor amphitheater with a capacity for 200 people that can be used as a natural planetarium at night. The multimedia room for conferences, talks and audiovisual projections for 80 people. The four observation domes where the domes that make up the greater horn of the Southern Cross are oriented from North to South and have 2 Schmidt Cassegrain 16-inch telescopes. The domes arranged from east to west operate with 2 Schmidt Cassegrain 14-inch telescopes.
