Tajweed (تجويد) literally means doing something elegant and beautiful or nice and smarten, recitation comes from the word Jawwada (جود-يجود-تجويدا) in Arabic. In the science qiraah, tajwid means getting letters from his place by giving its properties. So knowledge of recitation is a science which studies how to honk or pronounce the letters contained in the holy book the Koran or not.
The issues raised in this science is makharijul letters (a place out of the letter), shifatul letter (the pronunciation of the letter), ahkamul letter (the relationship between letters), ahkamul Maddi wal qasr (long and short sayings), ahkamul waqf wal ibtida '(start and stop reading) and al-Khat al-Ottoman.
