ST12 is an Indonesian music group founded in Bandung, West Java in 2004. This group was founded by Ilham Febry aka Pepep (drums), Dedy Sudrajat aka Pepeng (guitar), Muhammad Charly van Houten alias Charly (vocalist), and Iman Rush (vocalist) guitarist). The name ST12 itself is short for Jl. East Station No. 12 which is the headquarters of this band gathering. Until now ST12 has produced 5 music albums.
ST12 was officially established on January 20, 2004, although its members have long been in the music world. Previously, the four personnel is not know each other. They often meet at rental studios on Jalan Stasiun Timur 12, Bandung, owned by Pepep. The name ST12 which is short for Jl. East Station No. 12 is the name given by Pepep's father, Helmi Aziz. They also compromised by adopting Malay, Pop, Country, Acoustic and Jazz, although Charly enjoyed jazz, Pepep liked jazz and rock, while Pepeng grew up with rock music. Difficult to get a record label that would accept them, ST12 finally took the indie (independent) route. Inaugural album, The Best Way was released. Unfortunately, during a promotional tour of the album in Semarang, Iman Rush died from a ruptured blood vessel in the brain in October 2005. [1]
The success of the ST12 debut album made them ogled by Trinity Optima Production. ST12 released the second album P.U.S.P.A (2008) dedicated to Faith. [2]
On October 9, 2011, Charly's attorney released a statement that Charly van Houten was no longer a member of the band ST12. [3]
On October 13, 2011, Pepeng left ST12 after catching up with Charly. [4]
In 2012, the band returned with its newest formation. Namely in the vocal position filled by Ridho as Charly's replacement. In 2013, this music group officially released the album Lentera Hati under the auspices of Universal Music Indonesia.
In March 2013, ST12 launched a new album titled "Lentera Hati" at Wisma Bentley Music, Malaysia. at the same time ST12 introduced new members namely Koko (guitar) and Indra (bass). Even so, in fact Indra was involved in making the album "Lentera Hati". But at that time he was still under contract with another band.
The song "Putih Putih Melati" in this album has also become the Single Hits in Malaysia. The single "Putih Putih Melati" topped the Popular Radio charts in Malaysia. This single also entered into the Top 5 for the Top Single Chart on iTunes. The "Putih Putih Melati" video clip was once the No.1 Top Track for the most popular Daily Video on Youtube Malaysia for several days in a row.
The success of ST12 in Malaysia was marked by getting 16 times the Platinum Awards for the album "Lentera Hati" which equaled the total number of downloads of more than 4 million times.
In Ramadan in 2014, ST12 released on YouTube a religious song called "Your Forgiveness". [5] This song is an initial introduction to ST12 in introducing their latest album. The appearance of this video clip was a surprise for fans of this Bandung-based band, because ST12 featured a new vocalist named Dimas as a substitute for Rido Tuah.
