DoSo is a play on the word Duco from the Latin phrase - “Non Ducor Duco”, which translates to – “I am not led, I lead”.
All the work I do with athletes is based on the concept that our struggles with confidence, doubt, anger, fear of failure, frustration, lack of focus, and motivation comes from us being “led” by our thoughts. We react with emotion and then follow whatever path those reactive thoughts take us down.
The mentally strong athlete “leads” his/her thoughts, so instead of being in a state of reaction they are in a state of response. They decide where their thoughts are going to go, and not the other way around.
“We do not control the things that happen to us. However, we can fundamentally change – therefore control- how we experience what happens to us.” – Stu Singer of WellPerformance
Growth and development of new skills occur over time and through a consistent motivation to work on the things that bring about the outcomes you want. There are no shortcuts to developing the skills that it takes to continually be focused, respond to adversity, or bounce back after setback. It would be really cool if there were quick tricks, but it simply doesn’t work like that.
In fact, that is what makes this app and approach unique – your mind will naturally begin to function more effectively - with less reactivity - without having to “over-think it”.
Call it “resiliency habit” and it’s something that anyone can create. The fact is, we all have thoughts and behaviors that influence states of positivity or negativity. While the brain defaults toward paying attention to negative stimuli to keep us safe (survival instinct), we are absolutely capable of developing a more resilient brain.
One of the fundamentals to wiring our brain toward resilience is in the simple understanding that what we practice and repeat starts to become more automatic. Just like our physical training on the mechanics of our sport.
This app provides the exact sessions that I do with athletes from professional teams and division 1 programs all across the country. You’ll learn the most important performance psychology skills needed, and more importantly you’ll do mindset exercises that help you lock-in those skills. You can repeat these exercises over and over, and each time you practice a session it’s like doing another “rep” – it builds “mental muscle”.
You’ll learn:
· How the “performance brain” works under stress and pressure
· To have awareness of what YOU do when there is stress and pressure from performance
· The skills to respond in order to consistently maximize your performance.
This program teaches you to become highly aware of what the mind does. Everyone that performs – from the novice all the way up to the professional or Olympian – faces moments of challenge. Instead of denying that these emotions ever even enter our minds it’s more important that we learn to recognize them, then learn to implement the skills to move beyond them, and ultimately find our best over and over again.
