About Izzi Pics

Because the iPhone is always with us, its Camera is used for more than just photography. We take images of menus, signs, documents, things that need to be repaired and things we want to share. There are many real life situations where taking a snapshot is not the same as taking a photo. A snapshot is something quick and useful, but often forgettable. A photo is a keeper you want to capture at the best possible quality.

WHEN MEMORY IS THE ISSUE
It’s the snapshots that make the camera invaluable in efficiently recording information that has little to do with photography. We can take hundreds of images in a week where each image is then stored as a 3MB file. This can quickly consume available memory.

Izzi Pics is an app that allows you to take an image and compress it BEFORE it is stored. For some images, a compressed image works just fine. With Izzi Pics you can reduce images to 100KB, which is a 96% reduction in file size, and still get the job done. If you need more detail, change the compression setting and capture the data at the quality which is appropriate.

WHEN IMAGE QUALITY IS CRITICAL
But there are also times when you want maximum image quality and when file size is not a consideration. The Camera takes a great image, but it is converted to JPG (or HEIC), which is a lossy compression format. Izzi Pics allows you to take and store the image in a PNG lossless format. In this format, information in every pixel is retained, but at the cost of a large file (~ 20MB). PNGs have a high color depth, so the format can easily handle high resolution photos.

Izzi Pics allows you to reduce the size of the stored file when a more compressed JPG file will do the job. You control the level of image compression per shot or for a sequence of shots. You can also compress existing images. And with a simple click Izzi Pics also allows you to capture a PNG lossless image giving you an image at the maximum quality of the camera.
