Light-Hearted Fun
My (grown) son found this app and challenged me and his brother. His brother didn’t join us, so just the two of us. Honestly, from a fitness standpoint, this hasn’t added anything to what I had already been doing. I track my miles (walking, hiking, cycling and paddling) and usually log 600-700 miles per year. This app overlays your walking/hiking miles on a thinly disguised Lord of the Rings quest. It is fun if you like those tales, and it is fun to compare how my workouts match to my sons. It was disappointing that my cycling and paddling miles are not counted (especially my paddling miles - 200 last year). My son led me significantly for six months, but when I hit my backpacking season I passed him up. Now we are in “the Dark Lands” and running pretty much neck and neck. The social aspect of interacting with my grown son who lives a couple of hours away is really the key part of the fun of this for me.
