About StopTheScript

StopTheScript is a Safari extension for iOS, iPadOS, and macOS that stops all JavaScript on your selected websites. StopTheScript is the only Safari extension that stops inline JavaScript on the web page as well as externally loaded JavaScript. This is in contrast to Safari content blockers, which can only block external JavaScript, not inline JavaScript.

StopTheScript is made by indie developer Jeff Johnson. If you need support, please email me at stopthescript@underpassapp.com or read the support site at https://underpassapp.com/StopTheScript/support.html

Could be better

It’s functional, but virtually useless in the day to day. While I realize it is not encouraged to just block everything by default due to usability, concerns Blocking JavaScript by default is a measure that those who care about security and also has the perk of making your phone more intentional. I think it would be better to have forms of manually whitelisting. Instead of actively discouraging blocking. Great if you’re trying to read and bypassing paywalls but besides that very forgettable extension

Does what it says, but what does is stupid

Ok, my fault. I actually couldn’t believe that anyone would write such a stupid extension, so I assumed that the author worded the description poorly. Joke’s on me. 1. Why would there be no ability to whitelist certain websites? — this is different from enabling the <noscript> tags. Enabling noscript tags still breaks minor sites like Google.com. 2. Why would the choice be all or nothing JavaScript. Why not work like NoScript on every other platform and give a choice of scripts to run vs. block, and allow some to be global and some only for the given website. As designed and implemented, it works, but is useless. As it is currently configured, it is worth about 50 cents. Write a shortcut that turns JavaScript on and off in settings and it would be equally useful. Avoid this until it’s updated to have relevance.
