The George Institute Data Collector App
App overview – The George Institute Food Data Collector App helps users scan barcodes of food items and take photos of the nutritional information on the packaging. Images are transmitted to The George Institute for data entry and processing. Data is collected within a defined work program with a view to undertake research to improve the health of millions. The DCA is only available for use after consultation with The George Institute.
App Features:
- Facilitates collection of nutrition information of food products
- Scans and acquires the barcode of packaged foods and associates photos of the product
- Allows users to work online directly with the CMS or offline with data stored in the phone
- Allows users to skip recently collected product data in countries where the functionality is available
- Allows users to capture Store and Retailer information
- Allows users to see a log of product barcodes skipped in countries where the functionality is available
- A useful tool for countries involved in the work of the Food Monitoring Group
Notes:
After scanning the barcode of a packaged food product, follow the app prompts to take photos of the product as required.
