RepubliCal allows you to use the French Republican Calendar not just as a converter, but as what it was intended to be: a calendar!
The app uses the original leap-day system (the only one which was ever legaly used during the French Revolution), meaning new years start on the fall equinox and leap days are calculated instead of having a rule. This means, unlike in the Gregorian Calendar, dates won't shift in relation to the seasons.
Available dates and conversions range from 1792 to 2126 (years 1 to 334), after which calculation of equinoxes becomes less reliable.
The app includes everything to have time-keeping be fully independent from the Gregorian calendar.
It doesn't only display the current date, but also allows you to:
- Visualize the year and actively interact with the Republican months. Scroll through the years and months to your heart's content!
- Check and convert dates within the 334 year range. See what your Republican birthday is!
- Create and delete reminders for specific dates. Got a picnic in a week? You'll get a notification in 10 days!
- Have handy widgets to show the Republican date in both your lockscreen and homescreen
- See the daily celebrations that have been assigned to each date.
It includes an option to display Gregorian equivalents as well, for those who want to see both systems.
Although years were normally displayed using roman numerals, you can change the way they are displayed with a simple tap.
