Slank is now one of the top music groups, starting from Cikini Stones Complex (CSC) on December 26, 1983, which is a music group consisting of children from Perguruan Cikini High School, Jakarta. CSC consisted of Bimo Setiawan (drums), Boy (guitars), Kiki (guitars), Abi (bass), Uti (vocals), and Well Welly (vocals), who expressed a lot of love for Rolling Stones songs. Unfortunately, this group did not survive and disperse. Slank experienced personnel changes up to 14 times in 1996 which lasted until now. The last formation which started from the 7th album Slank, consisted of Bimbim (drums), Kaka (vocals), Ivanka (bass), Ridho (guitar), and Abdee (guitar).

Meanwhile, the Gossip Street song from the album PLUR released in 2004 was highlighted by members of the House of Representatives. Slank, who at that time was an anti-corruption ambassador for the Corruption Eradication Commission, was considered to be harassing the council through the song's poems. DPR-RI through the Honorary Institution of the Council plans to launch demands on this group of young people, even though the plan was later canceled.
Slank's plan for Go International began to appear in mid-2008. In collaboration with The Big Hip, a Japanese band, produced an album, The Big Hip. On this album, Slank uses three languages at once: Indonesian, Japanese and English. For slanker, the name for fans, Slank will give a bonus in the form of VCD Exclusive Slank activities in Japan when purchasing Slank's latest cassette or CD album.
In addition, the band also actively supports various social events. April 2010, Slank appeared on the Earth Live event which carries the theme of the environment. Slank called for the need to be economical in using natural resources including water.
