Purple's career journey began in 1995 when they were gathered in a small shop on the edge of the Tebet area, South Jakarta. At that time Makki Parikesit (Makki-Bass), together with his bandmates namely Eki (guitar), Gatot (keyboard), Michael (vocals), and Muhammad Nur Rochman (Rowman-drum) they coined the name "Ungu" as the name of their band .
In 1997, Rowman (Drum) decided to get out of Ungu to be more serious with his metal band "GARUX". Rowman's place as drummer was eventually replaced by Icad. In 1998, Purple Vocalist at that time, Michael, finally decided to get out of Purple because of other activities. His position was replaced by Sigit Purnomo (Pasha-Vocal).
