Uncle Tom's cabin is a novel by writer Harriet Beecher Stowe. It was first published on March 20, 1852. The work has slavery as a central theme. It tells two parallel stories: the black of the house and the black of the field. The first, Uncle Tom, complacent and obedient, unable to imagine a future outside the plantation; the second, willing to do everything to achieve his freedom and that of his family.
While Stowe handles other sub-themes throughout the text, such as the moral authority of motherhood and the possibilities of repentance offered by Christianity, 2 emphasizes the connections between that and the horrors of slavery. Stowe brings out his fight against the immorality of slavery on almost every page of the novel, sometimes even changing the course of history in order to give a "sermon" on the destructive nature of slavery. that Stowe showed the evil of slavery is how this peculiar institution forced the separation of families.
