The crimes of Morgue street, also known as The murders of rue Morgue, is a tale of the police and horror genre by the American writer Edgar Allan Poe. It was first published in Graham's Magazine, Philadelphia, in April 1841.

The story tells of the murder of two women, Madame L'Espanaye and Mademoiselle Camille L'Espanaye, mother and daughter, in an apartment on a crowded street in Paris. The first inquiries carried out by the police investigation brigade do not give any results, showing its impotence to clarify the facts. Finally an amateur detective, C. Auguste Dupin, takes over the matter, who, after intense and brilliant investigation, offers an extraordinary explanation.

Apart from the first police account, it is also the first mystery of "closed room", in which the reader is challenged to solve an apparently unsolvable riddle and posed in a very specific and delimited field. The themes of the story are essentially two: blind brutality and its opponent, reasoning or darkness and light.
