The Metamorphosis is a story by Franz Kafka published in 1915 and tells the story of Gregorio Samsa, a fabric merchant who supports his family with his salary, until after a night he does not remember, dawns become a huge insect similar to a cockroach.
Among the most obvious are those referring to the treatment of an authoritarian and bureaucratic society towards the different individual, where he is isolated and misunderstood before an overwhelming institutional machinery and that neither he understands nor is understood by her.
A recognized interpretation refers to the unfolded identity of Kafka, who on the one hand feels nostalgic for the Jewish identity of his grandparents and on the other feels that he fails to make foot in the "gentile" world of Prague to which his father belongs.
Another interpretation could be that the work embodies human selfishness before the welfare of others. We can identify this in the work in the situation in which Gregorio was, since on him fell all the weight of financially supporting his family. However, when the situation revolves and now it is the family that has to take care of Gregorio, she refuses responsibilities and lets him die.
It is also said that Franz Kafka wrote The Metamorphosis in the form of obviously exaggerated autobiography of his moods and physical perception. Precisely the last name of the character, "Samsa", is in turn similar to that of Kafka himself with the corresponding consonant change.
